How soon can I get my driver's license?
In the State of Connecticut, there is a process to acquire a driver's license. You must receive on-the-road training from a parent or guardian, (anywhere between 32 and 40 hours minimum). For 16 or 17 year olds, if they are in the 30 hr program, they must hold their learner's permit for 4 months before they can take the test for their driver's license. If in the 8 hr program, they must hold their learner's permit for 6 months. If you are 18 or above, you must hold your permit for 3 months before you can take the test for your license.

Do the driving schools issue the learner's permits?
No. In fact, no driving school does this. It must be done online through the DMV. For more info CLICK HERE.

Do I need a CT learner's permit to start the classroom portion?
No, you do not need a permit for the classroom portion – but you must be at least 16 years old (CT law) to begin.

I heard Wheel Easy has a very flexible classroom schedule. How does it work?
Classes are held Monday through Thursday from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and Saturdays from 8:00am to 12pm (noon), yet students attend only twice a week. After-school classes are completed in three and a half weeks. The same lesson is offered on Mondays and Tuesdays, so a student can choose either day. The same applies for Wednesday and Thursday. This way you can choose your own schedule.

When does your next class start?
Classes are continuous. We run a revolving cycle of 15 lessons. After class #15, it rolls back to class #1. Since all the topics are related, it doesn't matter when you jump into the cycle. Class #15 is a mandatory Parent Class for 16 and 17 year olds.

How does your Behind-The-Wheel training work at Wheel Easy?
We strongly recommend the classroom portion be completed before a student begins their on-the-road lessons, since so much of what they are learning begins in the classroom. After-school classes are completed in three and a half weeks. Behind-the-wheel training is scheduled in two-hour increments. We pick up or drop off at your home or school, providing you are located in the area we serve, (Southbury, Woodbury, Oxford, Newtown, Sandy Hook, Middlebury, parts of Roxbury). Phone us anytime at 860.318.1060 if you are unsure.

Will my son or daughter be driving with other students in the car?
Absolutely not! At Wheel Easy Driving School, safety comes first. All our lessons on the road are strictly private.

Are your instructors licensed?
Absolutely! They are licensed by the state of Connecticut and by Wheel Easy Driving School.

How many student driving vehicles do you have?
We have four Ford Focuses, religiously and strictly maintained by our own licensed and certified mechanic.

Do you perform the DMV license testing at your school?
We go a step further. If the inspector comes here from the DMV, they cannot issue you a driver's license. You must still go down to the DMV. Our process bypasses this "road block" as we bring the student to the DMV where they use our student driving car. You’ll have no lines to wait in because the appointment has already been made. We are usually in and out, driver's license in hand, in 1 to 2 hours maximum. We only use the Waterbury DMV for our testing process. If a parent chooses this option, the cost is $75.

How many students are in a classroom?
The class size varies. There are typically between 15 and 40 students per class.

How long will it take to complete the full 30 hr program?
Typically, 7 and a half weeks.

Do you offer an express program?
We do not offer an express program at this time.

Can I take the 8 hr mandatory program and get behind-the-wheel lessons too? What is the cost of those lessons?
Absolutely! The cost is $130 for each 2 hr driving lesson.

Do I have to purchase a book for the classroom portion?
No. The only thing that is required here at Wheel Easy is a blank notebook. We supply everything else.

Who are your driving instructors?
They are Moms including Diane Grenier (owner, along with Mr. G who is also a certified instructor). Our Secretary is Amanda Grenier and our wonderful therapy dog is Teddy!
